SparkControl 2
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Platform Transition
Why are we changing platforms?
Spark Player was originally developed because there was no reliable, commercially supported system designed specifically for mobile LED videotrucks at the time.
As the fleet and advertiser expectations have grown, it is no longer practical to maintain a custom-built content platform internally.
SparkControl 2 operates on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure used by thousands of digital displays worldwide. By transitioning to a proven commercial partner that specializes in large-scale content delivery and management, Spark can focus its engineering resources on advancing our LED videotruck hardware platforms and mobile display innovation.
This transition strengthens the long-term stability of the network.
Can I continue using Spark Player?
No.
After March 31, 2026, Spark Player will no longer function. It will not be possible to display any content using Spark Player beyond that date.
Spark Player will be permanently disabled and will not receive further updates or support.
If you choose to transition to another digital signage platform instead of SparkControl 2, Spark is unable to assist with configuration, troubleshooting, or migration to third-party systems. Spark support applies only to trucks operating on SparkControl 2.
Is this another experimental platform change?
No.
SparkControl 2 runs on infrastructure that is already operating at enterprise scale across thousands of commercial displays. This transition reduces custom development risk and aligns the fleet with a professionally maintained, commercially supported platform.
What happens if I don’t upgrade?
After March 31, 2026, Spark Player will not operate. Your screens will not display content until another compatible content system is installed and configured.
Spark support services apply only to trucks running SparkControl 2.
How long does migration take?
Most trucks can be migrated during a single scheduled session. Timing depends on your hardware configuration and whether recommended hardware enhancements are installed.
2. Pricing & Billing
What does the $199 upgrade fee cover?
The one-time upgrade fee covers the complete migration of your truck to SparkControl 2.
- Platform configuration
- System conversion
- Verification of proper operation
- Alignment with the supported Spark network
This is a full platform transition — not simply installing new software.
What does the $39.99 monthly subscription include?
The monthly platform subscription includes:
- Commercial platform licensing
- Secure enterprise cloud hosting
- Ongoing feature updates
- Remote management capability
- Proof-of-play reporting
- GPS-based campaign verification
- Training videos and documentation
- Standard campaign and platform support
This ensures your truck operates on an actively maintained commercial system.
When does billing begin?
Billing begins at activation.
If your setup call is scheduled for a later date, Spark automatically credits your account for the number of days between activation and your setup appointment.
Your renewal cycle remains consistent and predictable.
Is there a free option from Spark?
No.
Spark Player was originally created because no reliable commercial solution existed for mobile LED videotrucks at the time.
Today, Spark is transitioning the content management system to an established industry partner that specializes in enterprise-grade content delivery and management.
This allows Spark to focus its engineering resources on advancing our LED videotruck hardware platforms while ensuring the content system is professionally maintained and continuously improved.
What happens if I cancel?
If your subscription is canceled, SparkControl 2 will stop operating on your truck at the end of the current billing period.
You may choose another digital signage platform if desired. Spark does not provide support for third-party systems.
Do I own my content and campaigns?
You retain ownership of the media and creative assets you upload (your images, videos, and campaign materials).
SparkControl 2 stores and processes that content in order to operate your truck and manage campaigns.
Access to your account — and the content stored within it — is tied to an active subscription. If an account is permanently closed, access to platform-stored content and campaign data may no longer be recoverable.
For that reason, we strongly recommend maintaining local backups of all original media files and master campaign assets outside the platform.
Deleting an individual user does not remove organizational content. Campaigns and media remain available within the account unless the account itself is permanently closed.
3. Hardware & Reliability
Do I have to purchase the recommended hardware upgrades?
No.
The recommended hardware enhancements are optional and may be purchased from any supplier. They do not need to be purchased from Spark.
These upgrades are designed to reduce common issues that occur in mobile power environments.
What hardware enhancements are recommended?
Spark recommends the following optional improvements:
1) Power-loss protection (UPS or controlled shutdown module)
Prevents improper shutdown when vehicle power is interrupted. Improper shutdowns can cause operating system corruption or configuration changes.
2) Resolution lock device (EDID emulator such as DrHDMI)
Ensures the LED controller always receives the correct resolution signal after reboot. Without this, the system may revert to an incorrect resolution after power cycling.
3) Dedicated audio control hardware (where applicable)
Improves independent audio control and stability for trucks using external sound systems.
4) Network stability enhancements (quality cellular modem or router)
Reliable connectivity improves remote publishing, synchronization, and reporting accuracy.
Why are these recommended?
Mobile LED trucks operate in a far harsher environment than fixed digital displays.
Common causes of instability include:
- Vehicle ignition cycling
- Voltage drops
- Improper shutdown sequences
- Network fluctuation
These hardware enhancements reduce service interruptions and improve long-term reliability.
Why doesn’t Spark include the hardware automatically?
Spark intentionally separates platform from hardware.
Most recommended components are widely available at retail pricing and can be installed locally. This avoids hardware markups, inventory delays, and warranty complications.
For owners who prefer convenience, Spark can provide hardware at a service-based price.
4. External HDMI Devices & Apple TV
What about support for Apple TV or other HDMI devices?
SparkControl 2 runs on a Windows-based system. Windows does not natively accept HDMI input.
If you wish to display live HDMI content (such as Apple TV, cable boxes, or streaming devices), a streaming encoder is required to convert the HDMI signal into a compatible streaming format.
Spark provides recommended encoder options.
Why didn’t I need an encoder before?
Spark Player allowed direct HDMI pass-through.
SparkControl 2 operates on a cloud-managed architecture where all content — including live sources — must be delivered in a compatible streaming format.
Is the encoder required?
Only if you want to display live HDMI content.
If you only run uploaded video files and scheduled campaigns, no additional hardware is required.
5. Technical Requirements
Do I need internet to use SparkControl 2?
Yes. Reliable cellular internet service is required for:
- Content updates
- Campaign scheduling
- Remote management
- Reporting synchronization
- Platform authentication
Without internet connectivity, the system cannot synchronize or receive updates.
Will my truck operate differently?
Your truck will continue displaying content as it does today.
The difference is that it will now operate on a supported commercial platform with expanded campaign management, reporting capability, and ongoing updates.
6. Reporting & Performance
Does SparkControl 2 provide reporting?
Yes. SparkControl 2 includes:
- Proof-of-play reporting
- GPS-based campaign verification
- Automated report delivery
- Fleet-level monitoring tools
These features support advertiser transparency and scalable revenue opportunities.
Summary
SparkControl 2 transitions your truck from a legacy standalone system to a professionally supported, enterprise-backed platform.
- Greater operational stability
- Clear support boundaries
- Sustainable development
